Getting Back on Track After Thanksgiving

Nothing else in your experience responds as quickly as your own physical body to your patterns of thought.

Abraham-Hicks

For the first time in two years, my body let me know just before Thanksgiving that I was not following my own advice about loving myself for optimal wellness.

In other words, I was sick over the holiday.

The reminder to tend to my own self-care was actually a message I’d been getting for several weeks.

But I had exciting things underway with travel for a business mastermind retreat, professional photo session, and VIP day with my coach where we created plans for me to launch a new website on December 13, start a new Love Your Way Slim coaching program on January 7, and hold a beachside retreat for 8 women in Charleston, South Carolina, in April. Plus my folks were arriving for five days to celebrate Thanksgiving.

I was focused on “doing.” And it felt like “too much” happening at once.

There is so much more to wellness than checking your workout off your “to-do” list and eating relatively healthy foods.

A significant part of optimal wellness is believing in your wellness and your capacity to deal with any outer situation.

The purpose of life is to give you a chance to be the

grandest version of the greatest vision ever you held

about Who You Are. When challenges arrive, then,

move straight to clarity: This is what you came for.

Now rise to this occasion, and know that you have

every resource with which to create the right and

perfect outcome.

Neale Donald Walsch

The good news is not feeling well forced me to take some time to “Be.” I used the time to rest, meditate, spend quality time with my family, and read a book that felt like the next logical step in my own spiritual development.

And I focused on what I know.

  • Almost all illness and injury is evidence of being out of balance and is temporary. Wellness is your natural state of being.
  • You are unique, powerful, gifted, resourceful, and loved. A great part of optimal wellness is seeing yourself that way.
  • You are never, ever, given a challenge you cannot overcome.

I am grateful that my body gave me a great reminder to take the time to rest and reflect on my beliefs about myself, what I am capable of, and what I deserve, and to tap into what is really important to me.

How are your current beliefs impacting your optimal wellness? Are they helping you be the “the greatest vision ever you held about Who You Are?”

If not, how do you need to change how you think about you?

Together we can do it!

Choosing to Work for the Body You Want

While I’m in Sedona, Arizona, attending a business mastermind retreat, I’m sharing one of my favorite past blogs.

Last night I took a look at all the things that are pretty commonly thought of as requirements for being healthy.

Things like eating healthy foods, exercise, drinking water, getting enough sleep, etc.

What was different was that instead of evaluating how well I am doing in each category–which leaves plenty of room for self-judgmentI looked at how I am approaching each thing.

  • Is it something I “won’t” or “can’t” do?
  • Is it something I “have to” do?
  • Is it a “need to” do?
  • Or is it something I “choose to ” or “choose not to” do?

This may sound like semantics, but in truth, the positive anabolic energy generated in approaching everything as a choice is like putting a rocket launcher on your ability to achieve your goals.

When you make working-out something you “choose-to” do, you are empowered. Even when you choose not to exercise today, you cut out all the guilt and self-punishment, and are still empowered.

Telling yourself you “can’t or “won’t” exercise removes all choice and generates negative catabolic energy that bogs down your momentum like wheels getting stuck in mud.

Feeling like you “have to” workout is only a little better because your ability to choose is still limited.

Telling yourself you “need to” work out gives you more of a choice and starts to shift your momentum.

Choosing your actions gives you total control.

It was empowering just looking down this list with my fabulous mentor coach Jennifer Barley and seeing that in eight out of 12 categories, I am functioning at not only a “choose to” level, but a strong “want to!”

Taking out judgment left me feeling confident about my ability to achieve my wellness-goals.

For instance, it doesn’t matter that I am choosing to decrease the intensity of my workouts for the time being because of tweaking the muscles in my back (something I have been judging myself for).

What is important is that I am still choosing to work out five to six times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes doing what I can do. I’m still empowered and moving towards my goal; more slowly perhaps, but still forward.

That left only four categories that I feel I “need to” be doing to be healthy.

Instead of judging my overall wellness based on some room for improvement, I can separate out those few categories and work on shifting my thoughts around them from “Need to” to “Choose to.” That feels much more doable and like something, well, I “want to” do!

Here’s how to do this exercise for yourself.

  • What is your wellness goal?
  • Make a list of all the things that you believe you “have to” do to achieve it.
  • Then rank how you are approaching those things.

Are you closer to the disempowered “have to” or the empowered “choose to?” What can you do to move any low-energy areas to things that you “want to” do? How different does that feel?

Together we can do it!

The Non-Negotiable Key to Success

While I’m in Sedona, Arizona, attending a business mastermind retreat, I’ve asked a few fabulous coaches to step in with blogs. Today’s guest blog is by Denise Hedges. While Denise is a business development coach and marketing strategist, her insight on mindset absolutely applies to weight loss.

I can tell within 10 to 15 minutes. It’s so obvious.

I’ve coached a lot of people, and the contrasts between them is striking, but nothing has more influence over how successful they’ll be and how rapidly they progress than one particular factor.

From this one aspect, I can tell if they’re going to proceed normally toward getting what they want … facing just the usual challenges of life and business … or they’re really going to struggle. What is that?

I can focus it and personalize it best by asking a question.

How much time and energy do you spend arguing for your limitations?

In other words, how much of the conversation you have with yourself in your head, not to mention with others, sounds like: I can’t do this … that’s impossible … nothing’s gonna work … it’s all too hard … I don’t deserve it?

Sound familiar? Well, that’s where the contrast occurs. Really successful, happy people don’t do this.

Look, most of us do at least a little bit of this on a bad day. I get that, but what I’m talking about here is a habitual, reflexive pattern of approaching life this way. Warning: It’s not a harmless indulgence. It’s toxic … to you and your dreams.

The quality of your internal communication matters more than anything, because it’s so absolutely fundamental. If it’s reflexively negative, not only can you not run at full speed, you can’t even really get out of the starting blocks, because you don’t really believe good things are possible for you. That’s a bad place to be.

And if you want to get out of that bad place and get on with the business of having what you want, that’s where you have to go to work first.

It can be a challenge for me as a coach, because most people want to get on with making plans and creating strategies, thinking that strategizing and taking action is what’s going to make them successful where they haven’t been successful before.

These things won’t help if the dialogue in your head is negative, resistant, and blocking. They’ll only help if the path of possibility is open.

And it doesn’t even have to be wide open. What matters is not so much that someone is blazingly optimistic or free of doubt or fear, it’s just that there’s an absence of the quicksand that is self-defeating self-talk.

Simply put, just don’t erect your own roadblocks and when you do encounter real ones, don’t amplify them, and you’ll be fine.

Now, please, please, please don’t think this is some kind of holier than thou message. Ha! Hardly. I grew up negative. If there were an Olympic event for embracing negativity to the fullest, my family would have taken the gold!

And don’t think that if you’re currently disposed to thinking this way that you’re doomed. It just means that before you can make serious progress toward your goals, you have to transform your mindset.

I’m here to testify that it can be done.

A year after my husband died, a friend who was truly concerned about me gave me a book by Louise Hay … You Can Heal Your Life. I read it and then read it again … every day, sometimes several times a day. I realized I had to reset my default state of mind. I took it on as a project, as if my life depended on it … because it did!

The key is consistency. You can’t just read a book once and be done. It’s about consistently taking in the message and internalizing it.

Two years later, I was talking with another good friend in my car and she volunteered out of the blue that I was “the most positive person she knew.” I almost drove off the road! Confirmation!

Do I still have to work at it? Yeah, each and every day.

Okay, so what do you do if you’ve identified yourself as a negative self-talker who argues for your limitations and you want to change the default state?

Here are some terrific books and CDs that’ll help:

Ask and It Is Given – Esther and Jerry Hicks

Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting – Lynn Grabhorn

Wishcraft…How to Get What You Really Want – Barbara Sher

The Attractor Factor – Joe Vitale

You Can Heal Your Life – Louise Hay

decide ~ believe ~ dream & The Power of Attraction – Denise Hedges

Success in anything starts between your ears. The trick is to make sure what’s in there is empowering.

All the best,

Denise

Let Go of the BS Weighing You Down

It should be easy.

It should come naturally.

But loving yourself can be darn hard.

This is because you’re dealing with your own BS—Belief System. And you have to let go of the BS to love your way slim.

Here’s a quick and easy test to see if your BS is getting in the way of achieving your wellness goals.

Can you look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I love you” and really mean it?

If that feels like anything less than complete and total Truth, you have some work to do to let go of the BS that is literally weighing you down.

Often, women I work with struggle to look themselves in the eye and say anything positive. All they can see is their flaws. When they try to say positive affirmations about themselves or their bodies it feels like a big fat lie.

You must learn to love yourself first in order to truly open up your heart to others and strive to be the best version of you. Far from being the selfish act women often think this is, self-love gives you the energy and empowerment to be more self-less.

This is true because All-That-Is (God, the Universe, Source Energy, Higher Coach—whatever works for you) loves you, adores you, and sees your body as perfect.

And just as you are loved and adored by All-That-Is, so is everyone else. Everyone adds irreplaceable value to this world. The more you love yourself—just as you are—the more you are able to love and accept others.

It is not only OK to love yourself, but it is Who you are meant to be.

  • It is time for you to appreciate Who you are, and the unique gifts and perspective that you bring to this growing and expanding Universe.
  • It is time to look in the mirror and revel in the person and body you have helped co-create.
  • It is time to open your heart so that you can more fully love and appreciate yourself—and others.

A simple way to begin loving yourself is to start a daily practice of standing in front of a mirror and focusing on three things that you love.

What are those things about yourself that you can agree with Source are worth appreciating? Today, look for those things. Acknowledge those things. Celebrate those things.

Because you are worthy of your own self-love.

Together we can do it!

I’m excited to announce that I have 3 coaching spaces open to help you love your way slim. Love Yourself, Love Your Body

Are you loving you—no matter what?

Are you living as the person you intend to be?

Do your actions line up with your desires for the body you want to create?

Often the answer is “No.”

For instance, you may want with all your heart to be fit and lean, but you consistently overeat or blow off exercise.

I’m just as guilty of this as anyone else. For the past two weeks, I’ve overeaten or made less than stellar choices. While I am happy to say that the over-indulgences weren’t nearly what they would have been in the past, I still made the conscious choices to eat and drink more than is absolutely best for me.

And I’ve been judging myself.

So for the past couple of days, I’ve been focused on tapping into my self-love—which has truly been the key to my losing 34 pounds and keeping it off for more than 2 years.

Here are three ways to begin loving you.

  • Practice appreciation. You may have to begin with external things—like your pets or children. But when you get a solid feeling of appreciation going, turn that light on yourself. Appreciate who you are, what you are doing to move towards your wellness goals, and how hard your body is working on your behalf.
  • Love your body in pieces. If you typically look in the mirror and are critical, you may have to start off small and work your way up. For instance, sit quietly and send love to your toes. Then let that feeling of love spread to the balls of your feet, to your arches, and into your heels. Slowly work your way up your body loving every specific part as you go.
  • Focus on your heart. Sit quietly and think about your heart. Feel it opening up and generating a warm, green light. Imagine that loving light beginning to spread all around you. It can actually be helpful to put your hand on your heart as you do this.

While this may seem like woo-woo meditations, what you are really doing is tapping into positive anabolic energy that is enabling your body to regenerate and rebuild down to the cellular level.

As Mike Dooley said in today’s Notes from the Universe:

Turning up the love turns on everything else. Everything, as in whatever your heart desires, including the processes that will bring it to you.

Notice what happens when you begin practicing self-love. How does loving yourself help you create the body–and life–you want?

Together we can do it!
