Enjoy the Climb

When we’re finally ready to make the changes to lose weight, find our passion in life, improve our relationships, or just feel better mind, body and spirit, we often want the end result right now.

While that impatience is perfectly normal—and understandable when you have been in a painful emotional situation for a long time—it also may not be achievable.

Imagine standing at the foot of a very tall ladder. How likely is it that you are going to be able to jump up and grab hold of that top rung? You may feel the temporary relief of being airborne, but you keep painfully crashing back down. Each jump gets harder and harder, and you feel more and more fatigued and discouraged. You might even give up.

But what happens if you just take a small step and climb that first rung. It may not be your end result, but even that little bit of progress feels like relief. And then you take another step up, and another. Soon, taking those small steps starts to feel easier and when you turn and look down you realize just how much progress you’ve made. Your momentum increases and it’s not long before, one step at a time, you reach the top and achieve your goal.

Your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs didn’t get you where you are overnight, and it takes time, energy, and consistent practice to shift them towards creating the life of your dreams. But your goal is achievable if you just make the climb one rung at a time.
